are you aware that La Leche League was an outgrowth of the Christian Family Movement? The original medical board included Catholic physicians Herbert Ratner and Greg White. In the mid-1970s there was a 'revolution' in the board of directors and many of the original 'founding mothers' were eased out because they were not 'supportive enough' of social changes including single moms and full-time working moms.
I am not a member nor interested in becoming one, but I knew of what alicia is saying.
I dont BFd past the first year, but have met several moms who do so well up until the 4th and 5th years of life.
That's why I tend to stay away from these folks. I just dont agree with long term nursing which I believe they fully support.
Being in the thick of BF myself (a seven week old), I agree with syb. I don't want to have conversations with my child about it. It's interesting what Alicia says because I think part of the breastfeeding is the skin to skin contact which would be lost by pumping. Also, a stay at home mom provides more benefits than a breat feeding working mom.
