Jane Fonda must be turning over in her grave!

For all you Baby Boomers out there: are you at all surprised that the Democratic Party has nominated an admitted war criminal who committed atrocities against the Vietnamese people? Considering that many, if not most of the delegates were against the Vietnam War at the time? And isn't it strange that they not only put up with his relentless flag-waving, they cheered him?

The secular Left hates President Bush so much that it is willing to put aside its principles to see him defeated, thus creating a power vacuum that they can fill. That's the only plausible explanation. They are selling their message of hate to the wide segment of the American public that wants to hear a complaisant message. As Victor Davis Hanson says:

In a word, we have devolved into an infantile society in which our technological successes have wrongly suggested that we can alter the nature of man to our whims and pleasures — just like a child who expects instant gratification from his parents. In a culture where affluence and leisure are seen as birthrights, war, sacrifice, or even the mental fatigue about worrying over such things wear on us. So we construct, in a deductive and anti-empirical way, a play universe that better suits us.
UPDATE: A reader points out that Jane Fonda is not, in point of fact, actually dead. I'll stand by my headline, however, and I hope that a future version of Movable Type supports automatic humor-highlighting tags.

I wrote about this back in February: "I admit, I might be kind of confused here. John Kerry launched himself into public view by claiming (falsely) that the Vietnam War wasn't much else but One Big War Crime. Yet, his own participation in that One Big War Crime is now being contrasted, favorably, with George W. Bush's avoidance (deliberate or otherwise) of participating in that One Big War Crime. Who is doing this? Democrats. But Democrats started (JFK) and escalated (LBJ) that One Big War Crime. And Democrats have spent the past three decades vilifying the country because of that One Big War Crime. But it was ended by a Republican (RMN). Yet, Democrats are now boasting about Kerry (Democrat) because he was in that One Big War Crime and denigrating Bush (Republican) because he wasn't. Am I getting this right?"

Jane Fonda can't turn over in her grave if she's not dead, can she? Or is she posthumously producing those workout videos? (www.jane-fonda.net)

Joel,

I think Eric was employing sarcasm, but without the requisite <sarcasm> and </sarcasm> tags. Bad Eric, bad! Use the tags next time, or people will take you literally.

I don't think MT supports sarcasm tags in the headline of a post, but I could be wrong.

I understand sarcasm. I just thought it worthwhile to note that the woman who popularized the phrase "Feel the burn!" was still feeling it this side of the grave. Oops, does that need a sarcasm tag?

I dunno ... Uma did a pretty good job turning over in her grave in the second KILL BILL film, even though she was alive.

In fact, the thought of burying Jane Fonda alive ... causes me strange feelings of happiness.

Gee....you mean she didn't??

What? Who?
