A Gloucestershire vicar is to launch a nude calendar in his church after a group of 13 women posed naked to raise money for rape victims in Rwanda.

..."A lot of thought has gone into this and it is about empowering Rwandan women who have been so debased. It is about reasserting women's essential female selves," he said.

This is crazy, it does not empower women it demeans them! There are so many different things that can be done instead.

Objectify women to help victims of the ultimate objectification of women...:::sound of TPFKAAC's mind being boggled:::

I could say something about "their ends" justifying ...

but I don't think I'll finish that thought...

Have ye not seen "Calendar Girls"? (2003), about 11 middle aged women (45-60) from Yorkshire who posed naked (but very discretely and dignified) for this Women's Institute calendar to raise money for a cancer center?

This British sensibility probably does not translate into American. But I don't see that an Anglican community would have a problem with it. I mean, they don't have problems with openly gay bishops, or lesbian priests, either.

Can't we just let them have their fundraising fun? They don't point fingers at American Catholics raising money by having car washes where we pamper gas-hog SUV's, or "Crab Feeds" where we ingest obscene amounts of food. To each his or her own.

Washing your car in public is a mite different than baring your *** in public, excuse me. No matter how big either of them are. ;)

Some women in Akron recently did this to raise money for horse trails.

I wonder who the market is for this stuff? Certainly, they won't be able to compete with professionally done erotica or the stuff all over the internet. This is probably like bake sales, Church ladies baking cookies and then buying cookies from each other. Maybe, these Church ladies will buy these calendars for their husbands? How bizarra!

What? Who?

On life and living in communion with the Catholic Church.
