Church officials say the fake priest doesn't appear to have committed any crime.

No secular crime, anyway. Bet there were a few canon law violations, and possible excommunication if the guy was Catholic.

The last time I remember something like this being reported in the news, the man was pretending to be a priest in the church I was baptized. I freaked out and checked my baptism certificate to make sure the names didn't match.

So, just for curiosity's sake. Were his masses said with more or less dignity than the other priests in the diocese?
