The killing of Brother Roger, the 90-year-old founder of the Taize monastery, is a shock. May the Lord of eternal life bring all consolation to the friends of Taize.

I just heard about this today, August 23rd. I'm so saddened by this. I've long wanted to visit Taizé bu there are many circumstances preventing this. I've used some of the music for nearly 20 years, now. It's all so good, prayerful and solid Church music.

Eternal Rest grant unto him, O Lord....

We are all saddened by the death of a great man, a man of peace and an artisan of reconciliation. As of the news that I've read, Pope Benedict XVI was shocked and saddened by the death of the founder of Taizé since he had just received a friendly letter from him before the celebration of the World Youth Day.

"In this moment of sadness, we can only entrust to the Lord's goodness the soul of his faithful servant. We know that from sadness ... will be reborn joy," the pope said.

"Brother Roger is in the hands of eternal goodness and eternal love and has arrived at eternal joy," he said.
