Hymns for the new Pope

For those who've never heard or sung the hymn "Long Live the Pope", seminarian Bryan Jerabek has posted a scanned copy suitable for parish use. Somehow I hadn't heard it before, but at the German parish in Boston, the music director has: we sang verses 1 and 4.

Enjoy!

Not sure what the copyright situation is on this one, by Father James Quinn a Scottish Jesuit, metre 11 11 11 5

Jesus, your Church was built on firm foundations,
resting securely on the Twelve Apostles!
Still stands their college, lasting through all ages!
Wise was your building!

Jesus, true God and Rock of our salvation!
Yours is the title that you gave to Simon,
naming him Peter as the Church’s bedrock
first of apostles!

Jesus, sole Ruler in the Church, your kingdom,
yours are the keys that open David’s city!
Yet till your coming Peter is your viceroy,
keys in his keeping!

Jesus, our Lover, watchful for our safety,
love was the test you gave to your chief shepherd,
love for yourself and for the flock you cherish,
Shepherd most loving!

Jesus, we thank you for the Church, your Body!
Keep us all one with you and with each other,
one with our bishop, one with your chief shepherd,
Peter’s successor!

Jesus, good Shepherd, you have died to save us!
Make one in love all those who call you Saviour!
May there be soon one loving flock, one sheepfold,
one blest communion.

You can sing it to "Herzliebster Jesu"! Sweet!
