Rest in peace, Terri

May the angels lead her to paradise, and may she rejoice with her King and Savior.

And may God have mercy on those who failed to hear His voice in this tragedy.

The Offertory for Thursday in Easter according to my 1962 Missal reads, "In the day of your solemnity, saith the Lord, I will bring you into a land that floweth with milk and honey".

We beseech Thee, O Lord, according to Thy loving-kindness, have mercy upon the soul of Thy handmaiden Terri Schindler, and now that she is set free from the defilements of this mortal flesh, restore her to her heritage of everlasting salvation. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her.
May she rest in peace.
O Lord, hear my prayer. And let my cry come unto Thee.

Amen.

What have we done as a people?

What are the possibilities of the Vatican adding her to the list of martyrs, now that she has received the red martyrdom?

Remember Terri Schiavo!

Kenny, that has an awfully gnostic-sounding line in it! (shudder)

Martyrdom, probably not, since it's not clear that she died because of her faith. However, the Eastern Church has a traditional category of saints: passion-bearers which might fit. Passion-bearers are those who, with suffering united with Christ, demonstrate the redemptive value of suffering and make present in the world the meaning of Christ's Holy Passion and Death.
Terri Schiavo, passion-bearer. I could see it. Unless and until, however, let us not forget to pray for her soul.

To Brent,

I am saying the same thing over and over to myself.

And to John Schultz - Thank you for your words, beautifully put.
