It's the Islamic Equivalent of the Fictional Pope Joan

"Mohammed, can you heeeearr meeeeee . . . ?"

It also reminds me of this scene from Life of Brian:

http://www.mwscomp.com/movies/brian/brian-04.htm

"At first I didn't think it was a woman. I thought it was just a cleric I didn't know. Then when her beard began to slide off and her voice grew soft during a scuffle we found out she was a woman," the sheikh said.

Which is another reason why the Pope Joan myth is quite incredible on the face of it. It is highly unlikely that a woman could make her way up the ranks and finally be elected Pope without anyone figuring out that she was a woman (except the guy who got her pregnant of course).
