Mother Teresa on Reagan's assassination attempt

"You have suffered the passion of the cross and have received grace. There is a purpose to this. Because of your suffering and pain you will now understand the suffering and pain of the world. This has happened to you at this time because your country and the world needs you."

-- Mother Teresa of Calcutta, addressing Ronald Reagan in June 1981, quoted here.

I wonder what Christopher Hitchens would say about this incredible meeting....oh it's not even worth the time of day. Does anyone know who the patron saint of journalism is?????

He's already insulted both of them after their deaths, so he'll probably get around to insulting them jointly at some point. You know how it is with Hitchens: when he's being good he's very good and when he's bad he's horrid.

St. Francis de Sales is the patron saint of journalism, FYI.

...and to be fair, Hitchens published his anti-Teresa screed before her death.

Yeah, but he didn't stop attacking her after her death. I was watching her funeral on ABC News and Peter Jennings had Hitchens and some other guy on there and he allowed Hitchens to go on a rant against Mother even during her funeral. How classless is that???? I never have been a big fan of Dan Rather, but I flipped over to CBS in disgust (this was before Fox News) and found that Dan was almost in tears talking about her very respectfully. Since that time, I've not had much use for ABC News.

What? Who?

On life and living in communion with the Catholic Church.
