Seen in fashionable bulletins about town (especially towns under the jurisdiction of Richmond, VA) this new name for confession:
'Sacrament Interviews'
I guess you come in for the interview to see if you have any sins to confess. Or, maybe I read it wrong and it is actually an exciting new program (begun under Bishop Walter 'Where's my Rainbow Sash?' Sullivan, of course) where the 'kreative' among us can propose a modern Sacrament to replace the mean, judgemental one we have right now. Perhaps something with puppies... everyone LOVES puppies!
If to name something is to give it power, then what happens when you re-name it? (I know, I know, ask the Pro-Abortion Lobby.)
Puppies!
I wonder how many people are showing up thinking that these "interviews" are part of the prep for Baptism and Marriage?
I generally try to keep up to date on what's going on here in the lovely DiocRic, but I hadn't run across that one. Where might I see it?
I'll take one of those interviews. Can I bring a tape recorder? Boxing gloves? A megaphone? Just checking.
I believe we ran across this at St. John's in Marion. It's odd, because that parish shares its priest with Christ the King in Abingdon and we didn't see the "Sacrament Interview" listed there the last time we attended.
Not that we would go to either by choice - Alix and I both have posted about wackiness at both parishes as one of our long-running projects.
