The main reason I'm not still a public school teacher is I once asked a fat kid if he could retain anything besides water. My character deficiencies are far outweighed by the public school system, though, as you can see by this news story:
N.Y. Teacher on Leave for Soapy Punishment - a teacher washes a 3rd grader's mouth out with soap after the "10-year-old boy directed 'a vile, very nasty sexual reference' at a third-grade girl in March." The teacher got suspended indefinitely.
public education should be banned as cruel and un(usual) punishment....the teacher should sue.......anybody know a good lawyer??? hehe
So lemme get this straight? Y'all are suggesting that it's wrong that they suspended a teacher for not following the rules?
That's a tough one. Yes, the teacher broke the rules, but did she do any real harm? Unruly children waste the teacher's time and thus hinder other childrens' education. Thanks to the courts, it's almost impossible to throw really recalcitrant children out of school.
Which would give their parents reason to do their job and love and discipline their kids. I'll bet a lot of parents in this "inner city school" don't bother to do that. As friends of mine who are inner city teachers have found.
Of course, the teacher would need to be sure that she washed out *all* of the soap. As viewers of "A Christmas Story" know, soap poisoning causes blindness, especially if Lifebuoy is used. :P
