Football player dies for his country

| 3 Comments

Pat Tillman, a football player who gave up a $9 million contract to join the Army Rangers, was killed by thugs in Afghanistan. Instead of living the self-indulgent, pampered life of a sports star, he chose to risk death thousands of miles from home. I stand in awe of him.

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
(John 15:13)

Grant them eternal rest, O Lord;
and let light perpetual shine upon them.
(Mass for the Dead)

Amen, amen! May he have a share in the glory of God and be remembered as a true hero.

So many times the word "hero" is thrown around about athletes who are spoiled, selfish cads, if not actually criminals and abusers. Here's a guy who actually knew there are more important things in life than money. We sleep soundly in peace because of people like him. God bless him and his bereaved family!

He is a remarkable person. We even heard about him down here in NZ.

What? Who?

On life and living in communion with the Catholic Church.
