Note to Kerry

You can't be the second black president. You're not black. In fact, your face is a map of Ireland. Get real.

Am I the only one who finds this the least bit offensive?

Now, the man on the stand he wants my vote,
He's a-runnin' for office on the ballot note.
He's out there preachin' in front of the steeple,
Tellin' me he loves all kinds-a people.
(He's eatin' bagels
He's eatin' pizza
He's eatin' chitlins
He's eatin' b-s!)
- Bob Dylan, "I Shall Be Free," 1962

Umm - Kerry's not Irish either. His father was an Austrian Jew who changed his family name. The fact that he picked an identifiably Irish name has led to a lot of confusion.

And Kerry's mother is from the old Boston Brahmin Forbes family. The interesting thing is that Kerry was content to let everyone in Massachusetts think he was half-Irish for the first 30 years of his political career. Only last year did he let people know that he doesn't have a drop of Irish blood.

I stand corrected!

Was he talking about heart and not skin?

That quote by Kerry is too good. Am reminded of the line from The Commitments about the Irish being the Blacks of Europe, and the Dubliners being the Blacks of Ireland.

Perhaps French-looking Jewish-Austrian-Brahmins are the Blacks of Louisburg Square.

What? Who?

On life and living in communion with the Catholic Church.
