Apropos of nothing: Web hosting

At the risk of looking like an ass for interrupting the continuing coverage of judicially sanctioned murder, I'd like to ask you all for some help. At long last, I'm going to finish my master's thesis, hopefully in the spring, and I need to get a new web hosting company to do it.

I need mySQL, PHP, Perl, and the ability to host at least two domains (plus all the regular stuff like e-mail accounts). Shell access would be quite nice, but I could live without it. I don't need lots of bandwidth or disk space, and I do want to pay less than $10 a month. I've found one company, Lunarpages, that has such a plan, but I don't want to jump in without knowing my other options. Can anyone else make a suggestion?

Page-Zone, the company hosting stblogs.org, has the features, but costs $12 or so per month.

I use Hosting Matters. So do little green footballs and Instapundit. Their cheapest plan is $6/month. You should check them out. http://www.hostmatters.com/

what's your thesis about?

It's a Shakespeare search engine with some fancy features. Believe it or not, there's nothing like it publicly available on the Web. I've found a couple of for-pay projects, and lots of sites that offer pure keyword searching, but what fun is that?

I have been really happy with Tranquil Hosting. They are extremely reliable and have answered any of my emails within minutes.

For 7.99 a month they offer
400MB disk space
15GB monthly data transfer
5 addon domains, 5 parked domains
10 mail user accounts
5 MySQL databases

Well, Hosting Matters seems to be suffering another DoS attack: I can't get to my weblog, or Instapundit, or little green footballs. :-(

Try ParaFX.
See http://www.parafx.com/services.html

Their Linux hosting packages have Perl and PHP, and their prices are in Canadian dollars.

Personally, I like Citizen Hosting. It’s a fast and reliable web site linux hosting, which offers a lot of features for a reasonable price. I can’t remember any problems with them.

What? Who?
