At Caritate Dei, Rob Diaz likes a hymn spoof I sent him, and wants more. Any volunteers?

(Update: Down in the comments, Rosemarie posted a link to a smashing parody of "Gather Us In". Thanks!)

How about "Tantum Ergo" to the tune of "Clementine"? We do that up here for Adoration...

Well, there's my usual version of "Pan de Vida"...

Pancho Villa
Terror of the West
Pancho Villa
Of banditos the best

(Tucson has a controversial statue of PV downtown)

LOL. Is there any more of that, Gordon?

Submitted for your judgement:

You Are the Voice (music by David Haas, lyrics by moi)

Thanks, A. I love it! At least the text.

Haven't heard the original yet, though. I'm sure it could be a fount of sufferings to offer in union with our Lord.

Two years ago, someone on a mailing list to which I subscribe opined that the tune to "Gather Us In" sounded more like a drinking song than a proper hymn. She then suggested that we should write a drinking song to that tune (in the spirit of Hilaire Belloc, a devout Catholic who composed drinking songs).

Another list member took up her challenge, and the result can be read in the online archives here:

Hope this is what you have in mind for a "parody".

In Jesu et Maria,

A friend mentioned the song 'One Bed, Two Bodies" as a parody of "One Bread, One Body" by good ol' John B. Foley.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I quite often make up words to the songs we're singing in church. Quite often they refer to the need to play the organ and how horrible the music selection is. Aside from our wedding, my wife has never been to a Sunday Mass at our parish without Bob Hurd being played (I've been to one or two).

Y'all inspired me to have a go at this:
(Sing to the tune of We Are Many Parts)

We are all old farts, we have flabby bodies,
And the gifts we lack, we are driven to share
by the old folk choir, else we hear the screed:
All the people must sing
Songs they hate, or we'll bring
Amps to make your ears ring

Guitar god, we look to you,
We would be your servants true,
please just take your salary and go.

In my ears is pain, it's true.
Are you feeling this pain, too?
Let's go back to Low Mass after all.

All you seekers, great and small,
Please don't judge our choir at all:
If you love music, bring earplugs to Mass.

Ours were the briefs he wore (for ours were the griefs he bore - actually not a bad tune to sing)

Yessssss! "We are Many Parts" was the unofficial school anthem at my grade school. Sung at every, single, solitary, Mass for 5 years...

Gordon, I really hope that there's more to "Pancho Villa." I got to sing "Pan de Vida" at my own First Communion. It has...sentimental value for me.

Someone recently taught me alternate lyrics to Foley's "One Bread, One Body" that involved the number three, a bed and some French. Thankfully it didn't go past the first phrase.

On a completely different note:
"...And lead a snot into temptation. Bud, the liver is from Evel."

Man, it's late...

What? Who?

On life and living in communion with the Catholic Church.
