Phew!!!!! I thought I was the only one who found papal encyclicals to be thick and murky reading. I was always afraid to make much of it, for fear of appearing "less than intelligent". Reminds me of the story of "The Emperor's New Clothes".
Thanks for the link to a useful article. I don't know if I'll understand papal encyclicals any better, but at least now I'll know why I don't entirely get it. I think the pope's introduction of new vocabulary which the author of the article refers to is what gets me the most. I assumed terms like "the nuptial meaning of the body" were things that everyone but me already knew.
I HAVE NOT READ ANY OF THE POPE'S DOCUMENTS YET BUT READING THIS ARTICLE ENCOURAGED ME TO START READING THEM.
THE POPE HAS A BRILLIANT MIND AND IT IS AMAZING TO SEE HOW HE USES IT TO INVENT NEW WORDS AND PLAYS WITH THEM TO CONVEY DEEPER MEANING TO ALL OF HIS TEACHINGS. HE IS REALLY AWESOME!
