Peterson, 30, is accused of killing his wife, Laci, and unborn son, Conner, who disappeared from their Modesto home on Christmas Eve and washed out of the San Francisco Bay in April. He could face the death penalty if convicted.
Peterson as in Scott. Laci as in Scott Peterson's murdered wife. Conner as in the Peterson's unborn son. I don't know anything about California law with regard to what age a fetus must be to be considered a murder victim, but this unborn victim has a name and the mainstream media isn't shy about printing it. Is this is the culture of death changing for the better?
No, this is the media playing to our sympathy. They will shift their steely cold eyes away from an identical fetus in another situation when it suits them. Wait until Christopher Reeve makes a really big push for fetal ranching ... oh, sorry...stem cell development. They will cry tears just as big and just as fake.
I'm sick of the media.
I agree with Therese completely. The left-wing media has not changed their stripes at all. They are merely acting out of convenience for themselves. Scott Peterson has already been found guilty in the media, who essentially control the court of public opinion. By insinuating that Scott Peterson killed TWO people, it makes him (or whoever did it) seem all the more evil, which translates to higher ratings or increased newspaper sales. This is one case where the mainstream media's leech-like ways is showing a positive (treating the unborn as a living human being), but I wouldn't count on it to be a major change in policy for them.
Reporters and commentators talk about Conner -- not born yet, let alone officially named -- probably for various reasons, some worthy, some not. Still, it may have a little good educational effect.
