Before anybody gets all outraged about the reports of looting in New Orleans, let’s remember that some of the people doing it are hungry people who take food and water for survival and would be happy to pay if the store were open. Nothing wrong with that. Here’s a helpful guide:

If any of them are taking bottled water out of the stores, I could hardly blame them.
Incidentally, I’m wondering how long it will take for some Fundamentalist (of any stripe) to say that this is Divine judgment for the voodoo and Mardi Gras bacchanal that take place in the Big Easy. Not that I necessarily agree with that statement; I don’t claim to know the mind of God in such matters. But sooner or later someone will surely make that claim, even as certain Muslim clerics said that the recent tsunami was retribution for child prostitution in that area.

Great minds think alike: I made that prediction on thread below.
Incidentally, a public debauch had been scheduled for the coming weekend.

BTW, would it be okay to post this url of Catholic Charities’ relief fund for Hurricane Katrina, in case anyone wants to contribute?
