A win for wine lovers

Limits on sales of wine rejected
The U.S. Supreme Court yesterday made it easier for consumers to buy wine directly from out-of-state wineries with a ruling that struck down state restrictions on the sales.

  1. It’s kind of a limited ruling. It doesn’t, for example, strike down Maryland’s law because Maryland’s ban on shipping wine applies both to in-state and out-of-state breweries, unlike the ones in the case before the Court which prejudiced the wine industry in-state against those out of state, thus violating the Constitution’s provisions on interstate commerce regulation.

  2. Scalia, Kennedy, Ginsburg, Breyer and Souter vs. Thomas, O’Connor, Stevens and Rehnquist. Weird.
