As Merle Haggard famously sang, “If you don’t love it, leave it.” Thousands of Americans are taking him up on that offer, and none too soon. If you think you are too good for America, I, for one, will not convince you otherwise. Take your revenge on Bushitler and AmeriKKKa! Deprive us of your intelligence and moral certitude!
Unfortunately for Pete, these folks are moving to Canada. Given the close-run scare the Left received in the last Canadian elections, they should be lobbying for our American moral betters to move north.

Come on, Eric — surely you’re not saying that everyone who disagrees with the government on some issue or another should move out of the country?
Do these people lose the right to vote in the US or can they come south in 2008 and vote for Hillary?
I’m amused.
To quote the article in my own words…
“But [Canada] is turning into a country very different from the one I grew up believing in.”

May I add my own words, ”
Who would want to relocate to a colder climate.? I mean, they could move to the British Virgin Islands or Jamaica or something.

Come on, Nathan — surely you know that Eric was talking about people who are whiningly threatening to leave and not Bush critics in general. And I, for one, agree; they should either put their frequent flyer miles where there mouths are or just shut up about it.
They should move to Cuba or communist China.
OTOH, since they are racist and believe that people only have the right to live where their racial ancestors did, why don’t they all move back to Europe.
TPFKAC — I agree, anyone threatening to leave or secede from the Union because of the other side’s political views needs to get a grip. That goes for both liberals and conservatives.
Eric,
I am still waiting for all of the people who promised to leave if President Bush were elected in 2000 to actually go. Rosie O’Donnell and Barbara Streisand amongst them. Apparently they have yet to realize that he has been elected twice now… The time has come to make good on you promise and seek citizenship elsewhere.
Regrettably, unless Americans take the step of repudiating their citizenship, they can vote absentee in any election, regardless of how long they’ve been abroad. Perhaps we should encourage a passport-burning step once they’ve gotten their Canadian papers. It’s all a bit hard on Canadian conservatives, though. Still, for the common good, I guess we’ll suffer through imported American wackos as well as our home-grown ones.
