Why is the *very idea* of an academic conference on an artist and star of Jackson’s magnitude so batty and mockworthy (this is not the first “can you believe this” item I’ve read)? I really thought Old Right snobbishness toward popular culture had been outgrown.
Further, how can a Michael Jackson conference not have at least some panels and mentions and papers on race and homosexuality — although, again, the particular points in the CNN article are so PC-batty, and I’ll take a wild stab and guess that this particular conferemce will over-obsess on them.
