AM Strategy

Andy Card gave the Kerry folks an ultimatim this morning – concede with dignity because Bush is going to make a Victory speech today. They can’t be silent and the “every vote must be counted” is getting ripped based on how many provisional ballots are in Ohio and the fact that they are provisional.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

  1. I can’t believe Kerry did that. I knew he had horrendous positions and was a bad Catholic, but I never realized how much he had in common with his party’s mascot.
-TPFKAAC, who foolishly thought the Senator from Mass. would come to his senses some time in the AM and is worse for thinking so.

I must applaud Kerry for finally conceding in a timely manner and sparing the country more torment. At first, I didn’t think he would. Who knew he would be more honorable than Al Gore? Though I have to wonder whether some Party bigwigs didn’t talk him into it over the phone, reasoning thusly:
“You might as well give up the legal fight because a) Unlike Gore, you didn’t get the popular vote, b) He had only a few hundred less votes than Bush, while you have over a hundred thousand less, c) Provisional ballots are not “pregnant chads”; there’s little likelihood we could squeeze 150,000-odd votes for you out of 175,000 provisional ballots, and d) Please, please, PLEASE don’t blow it for us in 2006! I mean, we’d kinda like to take back a few congressional seats during the midterm election. If you drag out this losing battle for a month and piss off the electorate the way Gore did four years ago, they might just retaliate with a repeat of what happened in 2002. So for the greater good of the party, please graciously concede.”
    In Jesu et Maria,
