Nothing to sneeze at.
During SARS time in Singapore, Archbishop cancelled hand-holding and communion on tongue, and even individual confession. Permission from Vatican for general absolution.
Muslims also excused from Friday prayers if showing symptoms.
In Philippines Cardinal Sin asked faithful to stop kissing statues.
Toronto Archbishop also asked to stop communion from cup, kissing cross on Good Friday, shaking hands, etc.
Last year during flu season some California bishops asked churches to stop sharing chalice.
Our fine pastor told us two weeks ago that we would dispense with the exchange of peace between parishioners. He cited public health reasons, especially the lack of a ‘flu shot for most of us.
My wife and I have enjoyed watching some squirming when organist goes straight into the Agnus Dei after the congregation responds, “And also with you.”
I hope the pastor just “forgets” to add this bit of optional ceremony back after the spring thaw.
