DAY 9 – Five-Saint Novena for LC ‘Resistance’

Basta! and other Spanish-speaking bloggers are asking for prayers for LC resistance/philosophers. In questioning the movement’s methodology from the inside, these brave souls are reportedly feeling increasingly watched and insecure. Some have posted to Trastevere’s blog over the weekend.

Starting lat Monday (March 21), I’m hoping you will join me in a novena to St. Joseph, St. Ignatius Loyola, St. Benedict, St. Michael the Archangel and St. Bruno, asking their intercession and personal protection over LC resisters and philosophers. Don’t worry if you were not around for the first few days – novenas are living conversation with God and our Church triumphant counterparts, not superstition. Pray that God gives LC Resistance the grace to withstand the pressure they feel under, and that He frees them from their current situation.
Prayer to St. Joseph

O St. Joseph whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the Throne of God, I place in you all my interests and desires. O St. Joseph do assist me by your powerful intercession and obtain for me from your Divine Son all spiritual blessings through Jesus Christ, Our Lord; so that having engaged here below your Heavenly power I may offer my Thanksgiving and Homage to the most Loving of Fathers. O St. Joseph, I never weary contemplating you and Jesus asleep in your arms. I dare not approach while He reposes near your heart. Press him in my name and kiss His fine Head for me, and ask Him to return the Kiss when I draw my dying breath. St. Joseph, Patron of departing souls, pray for us. Amen

Prayer to St. Ignatius

Pray for us, O Holy Father, Saint Ignatius.
That we may be made worthy of the Promises of Christ.
Let us pray.
O God, who, for the increase of the greater glory of Thy Holy Name, hast been pleased by Blessed Ignatius to strengthen the Church militant with new help, grant that, aided by his prayers during our warfare on earth, we may so imitate his virtues as to be happily crowned with him in heaven. Through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Amen.
Let us pray.
O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, Eternal God, who, imparting to the bodies of the sick Thy gracious blessing, dost guard Thy creature by Thy manifold tenderness, graciously assist us to invoke Thy Holy Name, that, by the intercession of Thy Confessor, Saint Ignatius, Thy servants, freed from sickness and blessed with health, may be raised up by Thy right hand, strengthened by Thy help, guarded by Thy protection, and restored to Thy Holy Church with every blessing. Through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Amen.

Prayer to St. Benedict

Glorious Saint Benedict, sublime model of virtue, pure vessel of God’s grace! Behold me humbly kneeling at your feet. I implore you in your loving kindness to pray for me before the throne of God. To you I have recourse in the dangers that daily surround me. Shield me against my selfishness and my indifference to God and to my neighbor. Inspire me to imitate you in all things. May your blessing be with me always, so that I may see and serve Christ in others and work for His kingdom.
Graciously obtain for me from God those favors and graces which I need so much in the trials, miseries and afflictions of life. Your heart was always full of love, compassion and mercy toward those who were afflicted or troubled in any way. You never dismissed without consolation and assistance anyone who had recourse to you. I therefore invoke your powerful intercession, confident in the hope that you will hear my prayers and obtain for me the special grace and favor I earnestly implore. (Protect and provide safe refuge to LC priests and seminarians who struggle against Maciel’s methodology).
Help me, great Saint Benedict, to live and die as a faithful child of God, to run in the sweetness of His loving will, and to attain the eternal happiness of heaven.
Amen.

Prayer to St. Michael

Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle; be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray: and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Prayer to St. Bruno

O glorious St. Bruno, whose name I have the happiness to bear and to whom God confided the care of my salvation when, in holy Baptism, He adopted me as one of His children, obtain for me, by you intercession, grace to lead a life in keeing with the spirit of our holy religion. Aid me, charitable protector of my soul, to recover the grace of Baptism which I have forfeited by sin. By your prayers, obtain for me from God the assistance which I need to imitate faithfully your virtues. Protect me against the many dangers of this life, and do not abandon me at the hour of my death. Amen.
St. Bruno, my holy patron, pray for me now and at the hour of my death!

Please feel free to pass this five-saint novena along, repost it, invite others to pray it, and most importantly, to pray it yourself!

  1. I am glad to pray for those struggling legionaries who are bothered by their leaders’ handling of the issue.
Does anyone know if any English-speaking legionaries are commenting at the US or Canadian blogs? That is, other than pseudonymous Fr. Damien Karras who hasn’t posted for months.
